Campus Incident – Debrief

Around 11:30 as the Seniors were leaving campus for their retreat, staff found a bag unsupervised. Staff checked the bag and discovered what appeared to be a gun. They immediately brought the bag to the office. FALA Executive Director, Larry Wallen looked inside and observed what he determined to be a gun.

As a result of this perceived threat, he called 911. He directed that FALA go into a “Lockout – Secure the Perimeter, Protocal” to protect all students and staff. FALA staff was also in contact with Senior Field Trip chaperones to ensure their safety.

Once the police arrived on campus, Larry Wallen consulted with the Flagstaff police officer. The officer examined the gun, which turned out to be a CO2 (airsoft) pistol. Following safety procedures, FALA did a school wide backpack search to ensure no other threats existed.

The emergency procedures worked. FALA wants to thank all students and staff for their help and cooperation.
