Jelenann Day, Academic Dean, gives report. Review of events that are upcoming on campus. “Student of the Quarter” event honors students who demonstrate FALA’s habits of heart and mind and strong character. Students will be leaving on trips to LA and the boarder. Choreographer showcase will be on October 30th. Enrollment, right at 322 students which is what has been budgeted for. Jelenann expressed concern about 12th grade enrollment, two students will be leaving due to early graduation. Two suspensions have taken place this year, and five have been seen by Jelenann personally. Jelenann is very happy with how standards of discipline have been communicated through the classrooms. Jelenann recommends that exit interviews for staff be taken on by board, to give the staff an opportunity to share their concerns which they may not be comfortable sharing with people who might be their references in the future. Christina Bauer (counselor) is leaving FALA, a new school counselor search is underway. An experienced school counselor is highly preferred, with experience in testing, special needs, and college planning.
ED Laura Kelly gives report. Search for new dean is down to two candidates. Each candidate will be meeting with student ambassadors. Two students from each grade level (14 total) are on the ambassador committee. They spent 35 minutes asking questions of the candidate, which the students had thought of themselves and sourced from other students on campus. Alumni event on November 20th, MNA alum is curating an exhibition and a reception will be hosted before gallery opens to the public. ED expressed need to clarify policy on sick days, personal days, professional dev, etc. Tracking system has not been put in place to organize dates that employees are gone and notifying employees on paychecks how much leave time they have left. ED requests board to review paperwork on leave policy to vote on in November.
