Important Update From Kara Kelty
Dear FALA Community,
Due to continued hazardous weather conditions, school is canceled for Thursday, 2/8/24.
If hazardous road conditions continue, then Friday, 2/9/24 will be a remote learning day. Attached is the remote learning schedule. Students will log on to their Google Classroom for their first period class. Friday is an A Day.
Please note that FALA planned for 4 snow days. After tomorrow, we will have utilized 3 days. We try to follow the FUSD Snow schedule but FALA’s campus and population have unique needs and differences:
-FUSD planned for 2 snow days and has used them so they may be more conservative when making a snow day call.
-FALA’s open campus makes having in person classes challenging when there is heavy snow during the day.
-By keeping 1 snow day, we will be prepared for future storms that could see electricity outages that would make remote learning impossible.
IF we need to go remote on Friday, we will open the FALA campus for teachers and staff needing reliable WiFi, or who prefer to be in a classroom setting.
We know that Remote/Virtual Learning has advantages and disadvantages. Last year our teachers made the best of it and saved us from losing 4 days of instruction and extending the school year past Memorial Day. Additionally, the Remote learning schedule offers lots of opportunities for students to have individual check-ins and tutoring. This is a good time for students to receive support and get caught up on missing assignments.
I will confirm Friday’s status on Thursday evening or Friday morning at the latest.
Stay safe and warm!
Ms. Kelty
