Hello FALA Families,
I’m so excited to introduce myself and share a bit about who I am and what I hope to bring to our wonderful school community.
My name is Jaimie Gargas (he/him/his), and I grew up in Iowa where I found my passion for the arts early on—especially theatre, musical theatre, music, and stagecraft. I even started college as a theatre major before realizing I had a bit more growing up to do first! That growing up happened through twenty years of service in the United States Marine Corps, which took me across the country and around the world.
Arizona has become home, especially now that much of my family is here. My partner, Tori, is an Associate Professor in Early Childhood Education and Assistant Dean of Research at Northern Arizona University, and we share a love for learning, service, and community. My daughter, BreAnne, lives in the Phoenix area, my son Wyatt is on the East Coast but considering a move to Arizona, and my mom recently relocated to Sun City West. Being close to family has made this move especially meaningful.
Over the past fifteen years, I’ve worked in education as a teacher, instructional coach, principal, and administrator—primarily in arts-focused and small rural schools that remind me a lot of FALA. I’ve earned degrees in English and Educational Leadership along the way, and yes, I’m a self-professed expert in all things Star Wars, Marvel, Harry Potter, and pop culture in general.
What drew me to FALA is the unique spirit of this school—a place where creativity and academics live side by side, where students are encouraged to find their voice and pursue their passions. That’s not just special—it’s essential. I want to help protect and grow that identity in a way that reflects our students, our families, and the greater Flagstaff community.
You’ll see me a lot. I plan to be fully present and visible—attending student performances, art shows, academic showcases, parent nights, and everything in between. I believe showing up matters. I’m also committed to deepening FALA’s relationships with the broader arts and education networks in Flagstaff. We’re incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by resources, and I’ll be working to build meaningful partnerships with organizations like Northern Arizona University and Coconino Community College to expand opportunities for our students and staff alike.
Most of all, I want to get to know you—our students, families, and staff. I’m honored to be part of the FALA family, and I look forward to working together to continue shaping a school where every student is seen, supported, and inspired to grow.
Please don’t hesitate to stop me on campus, introduce yourself at an event, or reach out anytime. I’m truly thrilled to be here.
Warmly,
Jaimie Gargas
