Snow Day Updates
Dear FALA Community:
As of today, FALA has used the five snow days we built into our 2015-16 academic year. The state of Arizona mandates that students be in school for 180 days. In the event that we have additional snow days, the state-required days and/or instructional minutes will have to be made up. If we do have additional snow days, we may have to cancel a day off in April that we have built into our academic calendar as a holiday, add graduation day, May 27, as a day of regular attendance and/or add days after graduation day.
Will FALA change graduation day?
No, we will NOT move graduation date, which is May 27. Many families have made plans. If school continues past graduation day, we will hold the ceremony as scheduled but all students, including seniors, will need to attend the following week for as many make-up days as needed. Should this occur, diplomas will not be handed out at the ceremony. Instead we will give diplomas to graduating seniors at the end of the additional school days.
What would be the first make-up day if we have another snow day?
As of today, April 29 is scheduled as a school holiday. We strongly recommend that students and parents DO NOT make plans for this day as it will be the first day we use for a make-up day should another snow day occur.
Will graduation day be a regular attendance day?
As of today, the last day of school is Thursday, May 26. If we have more snow days, we will first add April 29 as a make-up day, and then add May 27, which is graduation day, as a make-up day and therefore a regular attendance day.
How can I stay informed about this?
Updates about schedule changes will be posted on our Facebook page, here on our website and put into our monthly newsletter.
How do you determine snow days and delayed start days?
We follow FUSD. If FUSD calls a snow day, so does FALA. If FUSD calls a delayed start, we call one as well. We post this information on our website, our Facebook page and our office answering machine by 5:30 a.m.
Thanks for your understanding and support as we move through this winter weather.
